The Twenty-Sixth Day of September
- In the United States and Canada SS. Isaac Jogues, John de Brébeuf and Companions.
- At Nicomedia, the birthday of the holy martyrs Cyprian and Justina, Virgin. Of these, the latter suffered much for Christ
under the Emperor Diocletian and the governor Eutholomius, and converted to Christ this Cyprian, who had been a
magician and had attempted with his magic arts to make her mad, and afterwards she underwent martyrdom with him.
Their bodies were thrown to the beasts, but by night some Christian sailors seized them and bore them to Rome, and
afterwards they were translated to the Basilica of Constantine and buried near the baptistery.
- At Rome, St. Callistratus, Martyr, and forty-nine other soldiers, who were converted to Christ when Callistratus, in the
persecution of Diocletian, was sewn up in a sack and cast into the sea, and by divine aid came forth unhurt, and they
suffered martyrdom together with him.
- At Bologna, St. Eusebius, Bishop and Confessor.
- At Brescia, St. Vigilius, Bishop.
- In the Tuscan plain, blessed Nilus, Abbot, founder of the monastery of Grottaferrata, a man of great sanctity.
- At Tiferno in Umbria, St. Amantius, Priest, illustrious for the power of miracles.
- At Albano, St. Senator.
And elsewhere many other holy martyrs, confessors and holy virgins. Thanks be to God.
