The Tenth Day of September
- At Tolentino in the March of Ancona, the death of St. Nicholas, Confessor, of the Order of
Hermits of St. Augustine.
- In Africa, the birthday of the holy bishops Nemesian, Felix, Lucius, another Felix, Litteus,
Polyanus, Victor, Jader, Dativus and others, who, when the fury of persecution arose under
Valerian and Gallienus, were, at their first constant confession of Christ, severely beaten with
rods, then bound in fetters and sent to dig in the mines, where they ended the anguish of their
glorious confession.
- At Liège in Belgium, St. Theodard, Bishop and Martyr, who laid down his life for his sheep
and after his death was famous for his miracles.
- At Chalcedon, the holy martyrs Sosthenes and Victor, who in the persecution of Diocletian,
under Priscus, proconsul of Asia, after they had overcome fetters and exposure to beasts were
ordered to be burnt: but they saluted one another with a holy kiss, and kneeling in prayer, gave
up the ghost.
- Likewise, the holy martyrs Apellius, Luke and Clement.
- In Bithynia, the holy virgins Menodora, Metrodora and Nympho-dora, sisters, who were
crowned with martyrdom and attained to glory by their fearless confession of the faith under
the Emperor Maximian and the governor Fronto.
- At Compostella, St. Peter, Bishop, who was distinguished by many virtues and miracles.
- In the city of Albi in France, St. Salvius, Bishop and Confessor.
- At Novara, St. Agapius, Bishop.
- At Constantinople, St. Pulcheria, Virgin, Empress, famous for religion and piety.
- At Naples in Campania, St. Candida the Younger, famed for miracles.
And elsewhere many other holy martyrs, confessors and holy virgins. Thanks be to God.
