Savvy '79

This picture shows the Savvy lineup as of November 1979. Clockwise from top left is Larry Patton, Rich Mauch, Don Reeder, Steve Jones, Jimmy (our agent), Richard Jones(RJ), and Rick Miller.

During these early days disco was the going fad and Savvy played a lot of tunes from Saturday Night Fever. When RJ and I left our rock group, Desperados, to join them the agreement was that Savvy would ease out of disco and into rock and roll. Until then, we would continue to follow Savvy's color coordination rule (white night shown here) and perform disco and floor shows on weekends.

Larry would be the first casualty, but then there weren't a lot of trumpets in rock and roll. When Ricky joined, Larry replaced Jimmy the Dummy as our agent, and took over managing the club. He and his wife Deana were class acts all the way. Don performed on 'I Wonder Why' and was with the band right up until after the Texas Jam fiasco.

In this photo, it is interesting to note that the white overalls I'm wearing actually had belonged to my brother, Ray, when he was a drum major in the Northside High School Marching Band.
