Savvy's Last Picture

This is the last known picture of the rock and roll band SAVVY before Ricky Lynn Gregg left the group to pursue a solo career. It was taken during the annual Labor Day Telethon at Savvy's Nightclub in Ft. Worth, TX on September 5, 1983. The band was taking a break in a Winnebago just prior to their last set together with Ricky.

The camera captured a lot of emotion in this photo. It is clear that Rich Mauch (top left) and Steve Jones (me on right with cup) were having trouble hiding our sadness. Dan Kostura (bottom left) seemed indifferent. RJ (top right) has a very forced, and sarcastic smile. Rick Miller (bottom right) always had a picture perfect smile, even when chips were down. The band's manager Jerry Hudson (center) was already signed up to continue on with Ricky's new group, The Ricky Lynn Project. Ricky Lynn Gregg is top center.

That night someone busted the window out of my 77 Volare parked out behind the club and stole the wallet out from under the seat. Not a big loss, mostly just an annoyance, but it did put a nasty exclamation point on the last night of a wonderful era in my life.
