The Station Theater
Located across the street from the EM pool and bowling alley, the Station Theater was a real trip. It was nothing more than a covered basketball "arena" with a stage and a movie screen. Its cavernous interior was unair-conditioned. In fact, there were no exterior walls! Movies wouldn't start till after dark. The acoustics were atrocious. Even when conditions were good it was difficult to clearly hear the movie, but, when it was raining on the tin roof, or when the seaplane squadron was revving up for patrol, it was impossible. And the mosquitoes would eat you alive. And, yet, we always came back for more. Why? It was free! And, except for the clubs, it was the "only show in town!" I'll always remember the Station Theater as the place where I met Joe Dimaggio.
But that's another story.
