JPJ ReunionDallas was another great location for a reunion thanks to Bob Knapp, '95 Reunion Chairperson. Things got started Friday night as everyone checked in at the Doubletree Hotel. After a noisy get-together in one of the hosptality rooms, most of the group shuttled to downtown Dallas for a late dinner, dancing, and barhopping.
June 23-26, 1995
Saturday started out with informal groups breakfasting in the hotel. Later, everyone walked or shuttled to a nearby park for a real Texas barbeque catered amidst large trees and chirping cicedas. Some courageous souls braved the heat and humidity to play a little tennis or basketball. But horseshoes in the shade was the sport of the day! After a great lunch and lots of laughs an conversation, the majority headed back to submerge in the hotel pool. Others went on a shopping trip downtown.
That night everyone enjoyed a great dinner/dance at the hotel. Lina Quinsaat had as great slide show of her family's early 1995 visit to the Philippines and to what was formerly Sangley! It was very nostalgic -- the movie theater, the main gate, Lido Beach, the O'Pool, The Admiral's house, the base chapel, and, of course, the quonset huts known a JPJ!!! Even with expected deterioration and neglect, it was still very much recognizable -- it has been 25+ years since we've been there! Dinner was tasty and the D.J. played all the oldies of our youth. We perused yearbooks and pictures, and fun memories were shared.
Sunday is always the sad day, saying good-bye to friends, new and old. Everyone left on an uplifting note from the breakfast/board meeting with the promise of another great reunion in San Diego in 1998!
