This line of BOYLE originated in Ireland. This was established using the data found in several census' (1861, 1871, 1881, 1901) of Perth County, Ontario, Canada. It was substantiated by indications from the birth and mariage registrations of several of the children.

The earliest BOYLEs we know about at this time are: John BOYLE and his wife Mary Ann WARRINGTON.

John BOYLE - Unfortunately, we do not know his exact birth location but it appears he was born in Ireland about May 5, 1815. This was calculated from his date of death and age information on his headstone in the St. Paul’s Methodist Cemetery in Milverton, Mornington Twp., Perth County.

Mary Ann WARRINGTON - It is not known where she was born other than in Ireland. Her birth date is calculated to be xx/xx/xxxx. We have no details when she imigrated to Canada, where they landed nor where or when she married John BOYLE.

From the 1871 Census of Ontario we learned of the Boyle family as listed below. We located this family by a page-by-page review of the census data and found a Boyle family in Elma Township, Perth County.  This was the known location (in 1871) of John Henderson Sr. and his family and the birthplace of John Henderson Jr. who we knew married a Margaret Boyle because previousley we had found the marriage registration.  While searching the census, we came across a Boyle family and noted it was “missing” an 18 year old.We subsequently located a Margaret with a John Henderson and young child on the farm next to the Boyle family and just a few houses away from the Henderson farm. Bingo.

The data from the 1871 Census embellished with whatever additional information we have located follows.

It turns out he was born May 5, 1815 and died December 30, 1893 at age of 77 years, 7 months and 25 days in the hospital at Toronto, Ontario. This was reported in the “Milverton Times” January 8th, 1891, in a note about the father of a "Mrs. Robinson who lives on Concession 16 in Grey Township [Huron Co.]". We suspect that this is likely one of his daughters (Ann, Rachel, Hannah) but we are not sure which daughter this would be and have not had time to research this item further. According to another article inn the Milverton Times, John was buried the next day in the St. Paul’s Methodist Cemetery in Milverton, Mornington Twp., Perth County, Ontario, Canada. There is a transcription of the headstone in the records of the Ontario Genealogy Society. It is not yet clear if John had moved to Milverton or was still living on the homestead at the time of his death.
From her obituary in the Monkton Times, we learned that she was born December 11, 1815 near Washington, Oxford County, Ontario. She died September 22, 1890 at the age of 67 years 4 months and 6 days. Mary Ann is also buried in St. Paul’s Methodist Cemetery in Milverton, Mornington Twp., Perth County, Ontario, Canada.
Their children:
1.“Ann, F, 20 (b 1851), born in Ontario
No further information

2.Margaret“ The Missing Child”

This child in prior year’s census is Margaret – at this census' date (1871) was already married to John Henderson with a child, John III. age 2. (See below for more on Margaret).

3.“Samuel, M, 16 (b 1855), born in Ontario”.

From his obituary in the of January 7, 1931 edition of the “Monkton / Milverton Times” (the local weekly newspaper) we learned that Samuel continued to live on the homestead until he was 55 years old.At that time he moved to the town of Milverton and became a “drover”.[Herding cattle from place to place.] At this new occupation he “could be seen working the country roads early in the morning and late in the evening. He met with considerable success in the local community and amassed considerable wealth. He continued his new occupation up until one year before his death. He will be missed”. Samuel also married a woman by the name of Mary Ann [Mary Ann Partridge]. Click this link to see photos of the Milverton Methodist Cemetery and the BOYLE headstone.

4.“Rachel, F, 14 (b 1857), Born in Ontario”

5.“Hannah, F, 12 (b 1859), Born in Ontario”

6.“William, M, 8 (b 1863), born in Ontario”

Margaret Boyle

She married John Henderson Jr.
We located the marriage record for John and Margaret. It reads - "Henderson, John, 23, Grey [Township of Huron Co.], Canada, married 26 June 1868, Margaret Boyle, 16, Elma (Twp), Perth Co., Canada, daughter of John Boyle." [1858-1869 Marriage Register of Ontario, Book 17 Page 51].

From this we learned two things (1) Margaret was born and raised in Ontario and more specifically Elma Township. This is near Seaforth where John Henderson Jr. was born or the birth was registered (depends on how you read the words of the birth registration). (2) She was married at a very young age. We tracked the 1871 Census in Elma Twp, Perth Co. and located a family of Boyle's who were “missing” an 18 year old. Then we noticed that only a few houses away there was a young family of Henderson's - John, Margaret and a child John Jr. aged 2. Bingo we believe these are two of the families we were looking for i.e., we had Margaret's parents and brothers and sisters. We also had Margaret herself in her new role as wife and mother.

According to the 1871 census of Ontario, Canada, they lived on a farm in Elma Township, Perth County next to the Boyle farm and two farms from the Henderson farm. The data indicates that John Jr. was born in Ontario c 1844, was of Scottish heritage, of the Wesleyan Methodist faith and was indicated to be a farmer. His wife, Margaret Boyle, was born in 1852 in Ontario, was of Irish heritage, and was also of the Wesleyan Methodist faith. The census indicates there was one child, John age 2. [1871 Census of Ontario District 30 (Perth Co.) Sub-district C (Elma Twp); Division 5 page 18 lines 3, 4 and 5]

John and Margaret HENDERSON are buried in Elma Centre Cemetery, Elma Township, Perth County, Ontario.
