He lost his mot her at the age of 13. During the next 4 years of his life, his Dad m arried 2 more times. He would hop a train to Memphis + stay with hi s Aunts. It appears he did not accept the step-mothers until he beca me an adult. !His Dad wanted him to work in the cotton mill as he did but Joe chos e to be an electrician, took correspondence courses and became the he ad electrician for Armstrong Packing Co, later it was Swift + Co. H e retired from Swift. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Bap tist. He never remarried after his wife, Lena, died in 1937, livin g 40 more years, only to raise his family. !Joe died in 1977.
