LDS 0411003. Griffith John was born in PA in 1805. when he was thirte en his parents moved with him to Montgomery County, Va. At the age of 23 h e married Liona Hamrick, by whom he had nine children, five sons and four daugh ters. Griffift John in later life became a Christain and united with the Ge rman Baptist Church. He ever after lived a consistant christain life . His influence is felt by his children. He died at the age of 79 yea rs with all of his children living but two. Worked for his father on the farm until 1862 when he enlisted in th e Confederate Army. Taken prisoner in Mission Ridge, GA and sent to A lton Military Prison in IL where he wrote to his brother that Smallpo x was very bad in the prison. It is presumed he died of smallpox.

William worhed on his parents farm until he was 18. Then he went int o the Blacksmith shop with his father, Griffith John, but returned t o the farm. He got married and had three children who are not identif ied. He continued farming until 3/1862 when he was drafted into the C onfederate Army until 11/4/1864 when, with 12 others, they ran the bl ockade and were 13 days getting through the lines but on Christmas Ev e 1864, he landed in New Carlisle, Clark, OH. After recuperation he f ound employment on a farm. In Jan 1865 he went to Indiana and sent for his wife and and son who arrive d in July 1965. He farmed for 10 years and then sold his farm and mov ed to Huntington, Huntington, Indiana. He went into sewing machines a nd music business.
