Daughter of Adam Gregory and Rebecca Dodrill. Peter built his home in the Upper Elk Community which is now Webster Springs. He was an agressive Hunter and sucessful farmer. He was called "Squint Eyed Peter". He had a lazy upper eyelid that gave him the appearance of squinting in photographs.

He lived at Laural Creek in Webster, West Virginia until 1862. He wa s a Unionist and fought in the Federal Army during the Civil War. O n 29 December 1861 he led a unit of the Union Home Guard on raids t o Laural Creek from Sutton. Several of his neoghbors were wounded an d killed and farms and homes burned.
